Trafalgar Square
Named to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar, Trafalgar Square is one of London’s best-known and popular public spaces. Nelson’s Column and the Landseer Lions stand in its centre, the National Gallery on its north side and St Martin in the fields is nearby. Once as famous for its unwelcome visitors, pigeons, as its statues and monuments, a ban on feeding the pigeons and the use of birds of prey has seen them almost completely disappear from the square.
